What to Expect During Your Antenatal Scan

Antenatal scans are one of the most exciting moments of pregnancy — but they can also be nerve-wracking if you don't know what to expect. At Klinik Stamina, we believe every mother deserves to feel informed and supported throughout her pregnancy journey.

Why Are Antenatal Scans Important?

Antenatal scans, also known as prenatal ultrasounds, use sound waves to create images of your baby in the womb. These scans are essential for:

  • Confirming your pregnancy: and estimating your due date
  • Checking your baby's growth: and development
  • Detecting potential abnormalities: early
  • Monitoring the position: of the placenta
  • Determining the baby's position: before delivery

At Klinik Stamina, we use modern 2D and 3D ultrasound technology to provide clear images and accurate assessments.

What Happens During Your Scan?

When you arrive for your antenatal scan at Klinik Stamina, here's what you can expect:

  1. **Preparation**: You'll be asked to lie down on an examination bed. A gel will be applied to your abdomen — it might feel slightly cold but is completely safe.

2. **The Scan**: Our doctor will move a handheld device (transducer) over your belly. You'll see images of your baby appear on the screen in real-time.

3. **Measurements**: The doctor will take various measurements of your baby's head, abdomen, and limbs to check growth patterns.

4. **Heartbeat Check**: You'll get to hear your baby's heartbeat — often the most emotional moment for parents!

5. **Results Discussion**: After the scan, our doctor will explain the findings and answer any questions you may have.

When Should You Schedule Your Scans?

  • Dating Scan: 8–14 weeks — confirms pregnancy and estimates due date
  • NT/Nuchal Scan: 11–14 weeks — screening for chromosomal abnormalities
  • Anomaly Scan: 18–22 weeks — detailed check of baby's anatomy
  • Growth Scans: 28–40 weeks — monitors growth and position

Tips for Your Appointment

- Drink water before your scan (a full bladder helps with image clarity in early pregnancy) - Wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing - Bring your pregnancy record book - Feel free to bring your partner or a family member
